Protected, owned and managed by the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy.

This sanctuary was initially protected in 2004 through a donation from the Bea Lavender family and has since expanded several times. Medenbrook protects significant frontage along Little Platte Lake, and consists of bog, hardwood-conifer swamp, and northern shrub swamp community types. This sanctuary sits in Benzie County, just under a mile from Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. It is part of a vital wildlife corridor between Sleeping Bear Dunes and state-owned land in the Deadstream Swamp complex – an area recognized by the State of Michigan and the Nature Conservancy as exceptional wildlife habitat.
