Support Our Work

The Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy’s success in protecting vital community resources depends on the support of landowners, individual donors, businesses, foundations, and government. If you appreciate the value of your region’s landscapes and want to protect them for future generations, please consider a donation to the Conservancy. Your financial support provides the solid foundation the organization needs to do its work – the identification of significant lands, the appropriate planning, the relationship-building with landowners and farmers, the stewardship of our existing natural areas and preserves, and the monitoring of private conservation easements.

All of these day-to-day activities are the nuts and bolts of providing lasting protection for our most cherished landscapes and natural resources. Every gift, no matter what the size, makes a difference.

van-guard: the foremost or leading position in a trend or movement
Members of our Vanguard Society have honored us by offering a planned gift. Planned gifts include estate plans, charitable remainder trusts, charitable gift annuities, life insurance policies, IRAs, 401(k) and 403(b) plans, or other deferred means of giving. Planned gifts are a great way to make a significant contribution to the work of the Conservancy. They represent a lasting legacy to conservation and provide for the permanent protection of lands important to you, your family, and future generations. If you would like to consider joining our Vanguard Society, please review these options:

Make a Gift through a Bequest

Most often, a bequest is made as part of a person’s will and stipulates that a dollar amount or percentage of an estate be directed to the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy. Most bequests provide significant estate tax savings. Charitable bequests can be made to the Conservancy as unrestricted gifts to support the organization’s core mission, or with a designation such as land protection within a particular watershed area or for a specific nature preserve. Bequests can be made by preparing a new will or adding a codicil to your present will or living trust. All legal documents should be prepared by and with the advice of your attorney.

Give a Gift of Securities

You can make a contribution in the form of stocks, bonds, or mutual funds. When you make a gift of securities directly to the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy, you may avoid certain kinds of taxes, such as capital gains. Contact us to receive instructions for the transferring of stock gifts and to ensure the proper handling of your contribution.

Provide a Gift of Real Estate

A gift of real estate, such as your primary residence, vacation home, farm, or undeveloped land, is a very significant conservation contribution. If the real estate is not appropriate for preservation, we will sell it and use the funds to further our land protection mission. Consider a Charitable Gift Annuity
One way to help achieve the Conservancy’s mission is to give, and receive a gift yourself – an income for life. If you are over 60, engaging in estate planning, and need more income, consider a Charitable Gift Annuity. Rates are competitive. Please contact our Fund Development staff at 231-929-7911 (toll free at 888-929-3866) or email Kate Pearson for confidential assistance.
