A Michigan native, Diane grew up decoding the signals of freighters communicating with each other in the Lake St. Clair navigation channel.  She views her role on the Fund Development team at GTRLC as an extension of that early ear-training:   facilitate donors along their philanthropic journeys by listening, interpreting, responding, and celebrating.   While a student at Kalamazoo College Diane spent 6 months in France, and upon graduating with a double major in French and English she was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society.  Diane’s 16-year career in book publishing was anchored in Detroit, allowing frequent access to canoeing, backpacking, hiking, Nordic skiing, cycling, kayaking, snowshoeing, birding, and beach lounging throughout Michigan and Ontario.   Diane and her family are self-described lifestyle migrants to the Grand Traverse region, which they have called home since 2001.  At that time Diane entered our region’s nonprofit sector as a communications and fundraising professional.  In 2008 Diane’s teenaged children, Fiona and Miles, helped their parents to recreate a highlight of their early married life, a two-week camping featuring at least one swim in each of the five Great Lakes.  When not officially on vacation, the family is delighted to reside in Benzie County, less than 20 minutes from their favorite Lake Michigan beach, which they visit in all seasons.  A former editor of the Great Lakes Sea Kayaking Association newsletter, Diane now offers her volunteer time to Michigan Writers, serving as Secretary on the organization’s board of directors.
