Protected, owned and managed by the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy

Mitchell Creek flows directly into East Bay making the watershed a top priority for protection. The extensive Mitchell Creek wetland helps filter out excess nutrients, such as phosphorous, which can cause dangerous weed beds that degrade the quality of the source of drinking water for all of Traverse City. This wetland also helps reduce seasonal flooding and water pollution, help keep the water temperature cool – something that is critical for many insects and fish – and provides excellent habitat for many native species of birds, reptiles, and plants.
