Land Protection
The Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy has specific goals and criteria for its land protection efforts and work with willing landowners, municipalities, and other stakeholders on a strictly voluntary basis.
The Conservancy protects land in the following ways:
- acquiring land via donation and purchase (that we manage as nature preserves)
- partnering with landowners to create conservation easements on their land
- assisting municipalities in the creation of protected parks and open spaces
- assisting the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in their efforts to acquire land in our region as State forestland, wildlife areas, and parks
Our land protection staff consists of experienced and dedicated individuals who offer invaluable assistance during all phases of the land protection process. The Land Protection Team makes a concerted effort to listen to landowners, municipalities, and other stakeholders and guide them toward a land protection strategy that meets both their and the Conservancy’s goals. Once land has been preserved we will also be there to ensure the land is protected long after the project is completed with our Stewardship Program.
