Conservation Tax Incentives Available Through 2011
The federal government has long provided tax incentives for landowners who donate a conservation easement on their land to a land trust like GTRLC. These incentives are recognition of the public benefits that conserved lands provide, such as clean water, wildlife habitat, and beautiful scenery.

A bill passed late last year extended through the end of 2011 a set of enhanced incentives for those who put a conservation easement on their land. These enhanced incentives allow landowners to benefit by, among other things, extending the period over which a tax deduction may be spread.
Unless Congress takes further action this year, the rules will revert to their earlier, more restrictive, approach.
